L'orée des Bois Motel

I called ahead because I was traveling with pets and told the owner I’d arrive by 8 pm. I got there around 7:30, but there was a sign on the door saying he wouldn’t be back until 9:30. No other motels nearby took pets, so I had to wait. The room was filthy, everything was broken, and it smelled of pee and sweat. Honestly, you’d be better off sleeping in your car. It was foul. Do not stay here.

The owner, Clark, came out while I was getting the luggage and asked how we liked the room. We ended up chatting for 10 minutes, which was a really nice personal touch. The room rate was very reasonable, and we were happy with how clean the room was. The motel itself was comfortable, clean, and quiet. I’d definitely stay again if I’m passing through.

For $110 for one person, I found it more than adequate. It’s not fancy or new, but everything was clean, there was plenty of hot water, and the fridge and microwave were a decent size. The bed wasn’t too soft, which I appreciated, and the Wi-Fi was good. Check-in was quick and friendly. I’d come back if I need to stay in Longlac again.

My truck broke down in -42 weather, so I called to check whether there was a room for me and my dogs. The owner turned the heat up ahead of time so it would be warm when we arrived. It’s an older motel, but it’s extremely clean and very well cared for. The owner’s a great guy who seems to really care about his guests. I’m usually not into older motels, but this one is top notch.
