Wanderer's Inn Backpackers Hostel

Martin was so welcoming and knew a ton about the area and plenty beyond it. He’s traveled a lot in Latin America, and we spent ages chatting about that. I also wish we’d had more time to talk with the owner about climbing in Bolivia and here in Canada. The volunteers and Martin gave the hostel a great vibe, and the owner was a really cool guy. Can’t wait to come back. There are indoor bunks as well as outdoor tents. I stayed in a tent, which was warm and quite nice thanks to the heater. I had it to myself for one of my nights. The other night I camped with my tent on one of the platforms, which was also really nice. The upstairs shower is really nice, and there are plenty of bathrooms even when the hostel is full. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you’d need to cook, plus plenty of food left by other travelers. This is one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in.

The rest of the hostel was lovely, but I wouldn’t recommend the tent. Two of us and our dog paid $130 CAD for a canvas tent at the end of May. The person at the front desk was super helpful and friendly, the kitchen was well kept and had everything we needed, and the common areas were beautiful. It’s a lovely house, with clean, private bathrooms, clean bedding that was warm enough, comfy mattresses, plenty of parking, and earplugs provided. We didn’t sleep well until the early morning hours. The tents are right at the front of the house, where people run up and down the stairs and talk, and we could hear traffic, neighbors chatting and gathering, and other travelers. That’s why our stay was three stars.

Everyone was friendly, and the owner was kind and gave us loads of information about the area. We booked a tent pad and got one in the front area of the hostel, but tucked near the bushes toward the back rather than by the front door. It was quiet, so we slept great. The hostel was great too, with a large upstairs bathroom and shower and a big kitchen stocked with everything needed to cook. Highly recommend, especially if you can get a tent pad farther from the parking and front door.

We felt safe and slept well in our private room, where the beds were comfortable. It was a clean, polite, lovely little house. We arrived after midnight, and someone was still there to let us in for the night. The next morning, there were cinnamon rolls waiting on the kitchen counter for us.
