Auberge Val Carroll

The room we had, room 4, was on the small side and covered in flowers. My parents have been coming here for 20 years and got married at the auberge. I’ve joined them for dinner four times and stayed twice. The food is really tasty and the service is great. The newer staff seem lively and polite. I visited again recently with a large group. Some dishes have changed, but it’s still very nice. I remember breakfast being amazing. The original owners sold the auberge earlier last year, and I hope the new owners keep things much the same.

The drive to the Auberge was a real letdown. After 20-25 cm of snow, the roads hadn’t been plowed even though they knew a full house function was happening, and cars got stuck. That’s a big reason I’d think twice about coming back in winter. The decor and surroundings were nice. The food was good, though nothing special.

We went on the reopening night after the pandemic lockdown, and while the staff were still getting back into the swing of things, they worked hard to make the evening enjoyable. Sylvie, the new owner, has already made noticeable changes, and I think the place will keep improving. It’s a quaint, welcoming spot with kind, capable staff. The food was amazing, fresh, and well prepared by chef Yves. The menu is fairly limited, but Maitre D'Hotel Gilles gave us wonderful service and thoughtful recommendations. Everything felt spotless.

We had dinner with a very large group in July. Everyone liked their meal, and the food came out at about the same time for all of us. Service was excellent. We’ll definitely be back.
