The historical setting and decor were lovely, and we’d definitely stay again. My husband, son, and I spent one night here in a spacious room for three. There was an outside balcony where we enjoyed morning coffee. Both bathrooms and the rooms were very clean. Upstairs, where the rooms were, there was a full kitchen and dining room, and we could store the food we’d brought in the refrigerator. Our wonderful hostess also provided coffee.

The place is charming, clean, and conveniently located, with super clean bathrooms and free Keurig coffee. The owner was awesome and accommodated our late check-in. I didn’t like the smell of smoke, but everything else was perfect. The sheets do need to be changed after each guest, though.

Lija and Charlie(the cat) were wonderful hosts. Charlie stayed outside the house in case anyone didn’t like cats. My parents and I paid less than $150 for one room, and we loved the kitchen area. The kitchen was fully equipped and shared, as were two spotless bathrooms. There were lots of board games to pass the time. The house had antiques without feeling cluttered, and an article and photos on the wall explained its history. The main downside was cigarette smell in some of the furniture. If you’re very sensitive, you might want to bring a purifier or spray to cover it. When I’m back in the area and need a night or two, I’ll definitely stay at McAlpine house again.

The property is beautiful, and we loved our stay. Lija was an amazing, friendly, sociable host who explained and showed us how everything worked. There are four nice rooms, two bathrooms, and a beautiful kitchen with a dining room. A fridge, stove, microwave, coffee, and tea are there if you want to bring food and make your own meals.

We stayed one night and wouldn’t recommend coming back. It isn’t a bed and breakfast, and breakfast isn’t offered. The shared washroom was clean and the bed was soft. There’s a common kitchen with dishes, a toaster, fridge, and microwave, so I’d bring food since it’s not close to Bancroft. There’s a hot tub out back, but no stairs to get in, so you have to stand on a chair. The neighbours had loud music and partied during our stay.
