The food tasted good, though it wasn't anything special, and the portions felt small. Our king bed was very comfortable, and my daughter had a pullout in the living room. The bar fridge stayed cold and the water was drinkable. The first morning the shower water was barely lukewarm, but it was better the next day. The dining service was good, with friendly servers and food arriving in good time. Front desk staff were welcoming and offered tips for local activities. A burned-out bulb left beside a lamp still hadn't been replaced after two days, though. The road in is rough, and both the lodge and boathouses need repairs, which made me think money is tight. The bonfire was used just once during our three nights. We had a good break from the rat race, apart from a power outage caused by a car hitting a transformer somewhere. If you don't expect five-star meals or service, you may be pleased. We paid $1800 all in for three days and hoped for a bit more for the money. The staff try hard, but the place needs an investment to become a great resort.

The groundskeepers were excellent, and the women cleaning the rooms did a great job. Pow Wow also has a beautiful spot by the lake, walking paths, a somewhat usable tennis court, and decent rooms. Our suite had two bedrooms, a little kitchen and dining table, an entertainment area, and a fantastic private hot tub room with wood walls and a sliding door. I did wonder how clean the tub really was, but it felt great to get in after swimming. The living room had a nice veranda and view. My aunt's room lacked those features, which may have been for the best: getting near an outlet seemed to cut power to her whole villa, and that happened around 12 times in three days. Don't use the outlets. The meals and service were the real problem. Portions were tiny, and the waitstaff seemed uncaring and slow at both breakfast and dinner. We started joking that we'd need an appetizer before going into town to buy ourselves a proper meal. When my nine-year-old cousin had only two pieces of bacon, I politely asked for a little extra for the table. The waitress said she'd check, then came back with two more burnt strips and said they were out. At dinner, I had two chicken strips and seven fries, and several others wanted more too. The answer was maybe, then they said they were out and offered kids' menu pizzas if we were still hungry. We weren't big eaters, but we spent the days swimming, using paddleboats, golfing, and playing tennis, so we were hungry. One family friend is 6'5", and one relative had just turned 13 and could eat whatever was put in front of him and still be hungry. It felt cheap, like asking for food made us a nuisance and the staff might be scolded for serving more. The owner made things worse. We were with family friends, including their mother, a smiling, easygoing woman in her 60s who likes hugs from her grandchildren. The owner accused her of littering the room with peach pits and accused us of being rude to the waitstaff. Asking for another chicken finger shouldn't be treated as pushing the staff too far. When we left, he called us ungrateful and said, “You guys are never welcome back here.” We're in no hurry to book again.

The scenery is beautiful, there's tons of space, and staying here was such a pleasure. I absolutely loved this place.

The main lodge burned down in 2018, and the place is closed for good.
