The nights were wonderfully quiet, with only a little rain to hear. We also ate at the on-site “Bistro,” and the food was really high quality. Prices were resort-level, as expected. We came to the canadian rockies for my wife’s 70th birthday, and the scenery was far more impressive than anything I’d seen in photos or travelogs. We stayed two nights at the JCL&B, after meeting the owner two summers earlier. It sits at the mouth of Johnston Canyon, and its cabins and bungalows have been family-owned and operated since 1926. Our cabin was quaint, very comfortable, and extremely well kept. It had a full kitchen with a period-looking stove, refrigerator, kettle, and toaster, all convincingly antique in style but quite modern, plus a microwave. The furniture and bed were both comfortable. Wood was provided for the stone fireplace, a nice feature on cold fall nights, and the wood-stove-style gas heater did most of the heating very effectively. The cabin stayed warm despite temperatures in the mid-teens ( F). The bathroom was spotless and well equipped.

The accommodation had everything we needed, and the staff were flexible. We weren’t sure the propane heater worked, but there was a backup electric heater ready in the room. It’s in a great spot after Banff for the drive to Jasper, which was our route. Fantastic place, highly recommend.

We only stayed one night, and the cabin was warm, roomy, and cozy for us and our small dog. The bathroom and standing shower were narrow and small, but spotless.

We spent our honeymoon in cabin 7, perched above the river, and it was so peaceful. Every morning of our three-night stay, we had coffee on the deck and listened to the river. The restaurant below us was a pleasant surprise. We ate there several times, and both the food and service were great. The staff were very friendly. On our last dinner, we met a couple of the owners. As we were leaving the next day, Tim stopped by to thank us for visiting and asked about our background. He was very friendly. I’d highly recommend staying here, and we’ll come back next time we’re in Banff.

We chose this place mainly because it’s 26 minutes from the Lake Louise parking lot. The price felt good for high season and being close to Banff. The tap water was lovely to drink, and my skin felt very soft after a shower. The room stayed warm without needing the heater and came with a fridge and hot water pot. You have to check in before 9pm during high season or come the next morning. Since we left before 5 am every day, we opted for the first option. They also brought us a second duvet when we asked, which was nice.
