The Plaza Hotel Downtown, Trademark Collection by Wyndham

We ended up moving to another hotel, the Ramada, where we were much more comfortable, but getting there was stressful and inconvenient. We had asked for a full refund so we could find somewhere else, and that wasn’t readily offered. When we raised the problems with Neha at the front desk, we felt brushed off and made to seem overly demanding. We were told we should have reported the issues earlier, though they only became clear after we’d spent some time in the room. The room looked clean and well maintained in the hotel’s online photos, but the reality didn’t match. The carpet smelled strongly of urine, and the air conditioning couldn’t cool the room even after several hours. It may have needed maintenance or replacement. Some websites also say there’s a pool, but there isn’t one on the property. That was one of the things we considered when booking. Parking was another concern. We weren’t clearly told spaces were limited or that we might not get a spot back if we left, which added stress. Sleep and comfort matter a lot to us, and at minimum we expect a clean, comfortable room. We can’t recommend this hotel. Management should address the cleanliness, accurately list amenities, maintain facilities such as the air conditioning, and improve staff training in customer service. We won’t be back.

The front desk staff were kind, and the rooms looked decently clean. It’s a convenient spot, with everything within walking distance. But the noise outside the windows was awful, and music was thumping next door. The hotel has four or five floors and hundreds of occupants, yet only about 12-16 parking spots. There’s hardly room to maneuver, and I only fit between the spaces because I was in a small truck. They said the hotel parking was being renovated, but wouldn’t tell me where the supposed other parking was. The hotel and Indigo spots look alike. I arrived in the dark, couldn’t see the Indigo pay parking signs, and assumed the whole area belonged to Plaza Hotel because of the size of the hotel. I was checking in for maybe seven minutes when I got an $80 ticket. It felt like a rip-off, especially in the dark with no visible signs. I think Plaza Hotel should clearly explain the difference between its lot and Indigo’s parking in booking emails. I think they may be the same company and making money from people like me, though maybe that’s just my cynical attitude. There were people hanging around in the alleys, which made me uneasy. As a woman arriving after a long drive, I was focused on getting out of the dark alley and into my room, not reading signs. The parking situation feels like a rip-off, and it’s by dark alleys, so try to arrive during daylight if you want to feel safe. I’ll add a photo of the parking spaces when I get back to the hotel.

It’s an old, dusty place in a downtown neighborhood, with the people that come with it. The hotel parking is limited, and city parking costs 20cad+ for 24h. Paying that on top of the hotel price in Kamloops isn’t worth it. It’s far enough from the train tracks, though. I’d go there only if I couldn’t find anything else. There are plenty of better options around, but it’ll do.

The staff were really kind, and we had a very clean, comfortable room. Breakfast was nice too. It’s close to restaurants and just a few minutes’ ride from the royal inland hospital. I’ll definitely come back.
