HI-Kananaskis Hostel

We found the staff and other guests incredibly welcoming and friendly, which gave the place a warm atmosphere. It felt like a great base for exploring Kananaskis. The hostel is comfortable and well kept, with modern bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. Cafés and lunch spots are also within a reasonable distance.

The kitchen was kept neat, though the kitchen sink and washroom sinks still smelled bad. Compared with other hostels, the place was less smelly. There was a campfire with free wood, and the location was nice. Hot showers too.

The rooms, bathrooms and kitchen were all very clean. It’s a cozy hostel in an awesome location.

Nancy, who was managing the hostel at the time, was the real highlight for me. She was so warm and kind, and as an avid hiker she knows the mountains well. Her advice was thoughtful, and every time we spoke I learned something or came away smiling. Thanks, Nancy. I hope I can return soon. I stayed in the men's dorm, where the bunk bed was modest but perfectly fine, with bedding provided. Bring earplugs and maybe an eye mask. There are towels, bathrooms and showers, plus a full kitchen, big fridge, laundry machines and a comfy lounge with board games. Outside, guests who enjoy the mountains can gather around the firepit to eat and laugh together. HI Kananaskis Wilderness Hostel feels warm and surprisingly cozy, not just like somewhere to sleep. If shared spaces work for you, I don't think you'll regret staying here. When I'm in the mountains, I'd happily sleep in a ditch just to keep taking in the beauty, but thankfully I didn't have to.
