Rosedale Motel

We were lucky to find somewhere else at the last minute, but lodging on New Year’s Eve cost more, and I still feel we should be compensated for this mess. I’ve tried calling Rosedale Motel, but the number goes to voicemail. Beware. We’d booked two rooms for New Year’s Eve, and the reservations were confirmed. After driving through a severe winter storm, we rang the front doorbell as instructed. No one answered. A woman came out of one of the rooms and told us the motel had been sold about 10 days earlier. She said the new owners didn’t seem to know they had reservations to honour and weren’t on the premises, but she’d try to reach them. She might have been able to get into the empty rooms and find some bedding, she said, but wasn’t sure, and recommended we look for somewhere in Fenelon Falls. The woman giving us the news wasn’t to blame, so don’t blame the messenger. The whole situation was stressful and the owner’s handling of it felt very unprofessional. I’ve never heard back from anyone about compensation.
