The general manager's response was the worst part of a stay that never even got started. I was in Kincardine for work, and when I arrived they asked for a deposit. I’d stayed at the Owen Sound Comfort Inn several times without ever paying one. They first wanted a credit card, and when I asked to use debit, the amount jumped from $100 to $250. Money is tight right now, so I asked for paperwork I could show my boss to help cover the deposit. I was ready to pay once I had proper documentation. Instead, they said I had to pay $250 and would get it back the next morning. I could have accepted that with written proof, but they refused and said a text message was the documentation. I asked to see something more legally binding and then asked to read the policy. The general manager cut me off, spoke down to me, and said, “I'm the general manager. What I say is policy.” I never swore or acted aggressively, but he repeatedly interrupted me and eventually threw me out for asking for documents I believe they’re legally required to provide. He also said the policy was on the website when I signed, even though my boss had made the booking. I had to find another hotel in a hurry so work wouldn’t be affected, and I ended up calling corporate. I won’t come back, and I’ll tell people I know who are staying in Kincardine to avoid this place. The manager’s conduct was completely unprofessional. 0/10.

I used to stay here three times a year back when it was the Holiday Inn. These days the place seems to be getting dirtier and less maintained. I booked four days, and each day had a different price, which struck me as odd. I left early, as the bill shows. I won’t be back. There are plenty of other choices, though the Marriott next door isn’t any better. At check-in around 3:45, they said I was early, then told me a maid had called in sick and my room would take another half hour. They offered me a free drink from the cooler while I waited, which I took. The elevator looked like it hadn’t been swept in a month: dirt around the floor edges, an old salt stain in the carpet, and torn rubber edging. My room smelled musty. I found hairs on one bed’s sheets during my bed bug check, so I wouldn’t sleep there. The other bed checked out. The bathroom floor was so greasy it felt like I could skate on it, so I kept my shoes on. I didn’t try the breakfast, but it looked decent apart from a basket of completely black bananas. My coworker and I laughed about them the next day when he noticed the banana smell too. His suite was fine, he said, but my room wasn’t. I still kick myself for not taking a picture of those bananas.

The pool was so badly maintained that, if we’d known, we would have chosen somewhere else with a pool. When we told the front desk clerk how gross it was, he said they were planning renovations in the next couple of years and it would be clean the next time we came. That was no help to us. We had four children, and the pool was a big reason we booked here. Please look at the photos. We’re from Kincardine but now live three hours away. We’d stayed at this hotel five years ago and had a fantastic time, so we booked two nearby rooms this visit. They were relatively clean, which was good, but there was pubic hair on the bathroom floor when we arrived. I cleaned it up myself. The bathroom should have been vacuumed and the previous guest’s hair removed. It’s disappointing, especially in a small town where we’ll now be looking elsewhere next time. #thankgodforchlorine

The whole building smells like mold and mildew, so anyone bothered by strong unpleasant smells should stay somewhere else. The rooms also have broken fixtures and noisy old heaters, and the pool is closed indefinitely. It badly needs a major renovation. Gabby at the front desk was helpful and very apologetic. She was the one bright spot.

There was a really strong smell in both rooms I tried, and I couldn’t stay comfortably. The front desk staff member was very helpful and friendly in an awkward situation. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless they’ve dealt with the smell.
