Mazinaw Residence Inn

The outside looked a bit rough, so I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was inside. My room had been updated recently and was very clean, including the bathroom. The sheets and comforter smelled freshly laundered, which reassured me since I'm usually particular about motels and hotels. Breakfast was filling and reasonably priced, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Pretty good for what I paid.

We liked having air conditioning, satellite TV, and a DVD player, even though the place and rooms are dated. We didn't try the restaurant, and the bar was empty, but we had fun playing a round of pool. Across the street, Country style and Mr sub were handy for morning coffee and breakfast. It's a country-style place I'd recommend if you need somewhere to stay while visiting bon echo.

We were exhausted after checking in, so we stayed in the dirty room rather than pack everything up again when the front desk offered to move us. They admitted it hadn't been cleaned properly. There was no heat at first, the TV wasn't connected and still didn't work once it was, and there were no coffee cups or toilet paper. When the heat finally came on, it swung between too hot and freezing. We had booked three nights but tried to leave the next morning, and they refused a refund, saying their policy forbids refunds after check-in and claiming that's true of all hotels. It isn't. They also didn't give me a receipt, saying their computer was broken. My office called to discuss it, but they wouldn't budge. I wouldn't stay here again.

The hotel is older and renovations are underway, but the staff were friendly and helpful. It's conveniently close to Bon Echo, and the air conditioning, mini fridge, and microwave all worked well. The water pressure was low, and the hot water temperature was uneven. For the price, it was a decent place to stay.
