Hochelaga Inn

Queen’s University, the waterfront, and downtown Kingston’s restaurants and shops are all a short walk away. We also really enjoyed the fresh, thoughtfully prepared breakfast in the charming dining room. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and seem to care about keeping the inn warm and preserving its history. The building is stunning, with Victorian character, high ceilings, and elegant details that don’t feel stuffy. Our room was clean, cozy, well equipped, and had a very comfortable bed. A great choice if you want comfort, a convenient location, and more character than a standard hotel.

We could walk everywhere from this charming historic property. Breakfast was included and excellent, and the beds and linens were especially comfortable. The staff were friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to make our visit a great one. We had a great experience and will be back.

The grounds are beautiful, the main lobby had lovely Christmas decorations, and the staff were excellent. My son goes to Queens and was sick, so I couldn’t stay with him. Parents visiting students get a small discount for one night only. I paid $335.63 for two nights, with continental breakfast both mornings. I was freezing in my room at first. The note said there was a thermostat, but I couldn’t find it until the second day, when I spotted it low on the wall beside the radiator. I was finally warm after that. The location is great in summer, but it’s exceptionally cold in winter and not within walking distance.

I mentioned when booking that the weekend in Kingston was for my birthday, and when the kids and I arrived there was a card, a little bottle of bubbly, and a giant brownie waiting in our room. Such a sweet surprise. The room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was fresh and delicious each morning. We liked being able to get coffee, tea, or hot chocolate any time until 9:30pm. The location was great too, we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. I’d love to come back with my husband.
