The Lakeview Inn

For our short trip to LDB, the friendly staff, restaurant service, and generous portions were just what we needed. I was skeptical because the rate was under $100, but this is a well cared-for small-town hotel. The rooms are dated, though that makes sense for an older place.

The room was awful. It reeked of smoke and urine, the bed felt about 50 years old, and there were mold stains on the ceiling. Smoke from the degenerates outside came through the half-inch gap under the door. Duct tape was holding cardboard around the window AC, the safety chain had no hook, and the bathtub was half white and half black. I wouldn't let my dog stay here.

On Friday, August 30, 2024, we went for chase the ace, but it was full. The volunteer at the door told us and said we could buy tickets and wait outside. Then a bar employee came over and yelled at us, even though the only thing we'd said was "thank you" to the volunteer. He launched into a grade school level lecture about the law that made no sense. I understand people handle stress differently, and he was probably feeling pressure from the crowd, but I thought he might hit my friend, who was standing beside the volunteer. I wish his supervisor had heard that one-sided exchange. I'm sure the employee would be in line for a reprimand.

The Steak Pit grills a great steak, and there are lots of other tasty choices with generous portions. There's plenty to pick from for food and drinks. It's a real neighborhood haunt, with staff who know customers individually and treat everyone in a remarkably friendly, family-like way.
