I still have so many good memories of this place. I stayed here with my family on vacation in the summer of 1971, when I was a little boy. I can’t believe I found it online, and the cabins look much the same from outside. I nearly caught a marten because it looked so cute, but it was anything but harmless. The ranger told my mom it would have eaten me if she hadn’t yelled for me to stay back. I also remember lots of black bears in the area then, so we had to put food away and handle the garbage properly. Coming back is on my bucket list.

We’ve already booked our three nights for next fall. After more than ten years of staying here, we still love every visit. We stay in the row away from the road, so traffic isn’t an issue, though there’s the occasional train, which I enjoy. The cottages are spacious, clean, and quiet, with lovely outdoor seating, flowers everywhere, and a coin laundry that’s much appreciated. The family owned Lodge and bungalows was recently sold after 60 years and three generations of ownership. The new owners have two warm, smart, caring women running day to day operations, and it all feels seamless. Highly recommend.

For now, it’s still a great spot if you want to get off the beaten path. We had a perfect vacation here, enjoying the slower pace and uncrowded surroundings, though that may be the opposite of what some people want. You trade convenience for that quiet. There’s no restaurant or place to buy food, so you need to drive out to eat or make your own. Some units have kitchens. Banff Lodging Co bought the property from the Pedersen family, who had owned it for 56 years. That could mean things gradually become more corporate and the little touches fade. On the plus side, Banff Co winterized the lodge, though not the bungalows, so winter stays are possible, which was very nice. It’ll be interesting to see how a more corporate approach works for this small place. The change in management doesn’t have to be good or bad, but it could go either way.

The toilet seat lid had a yellow, sticky liquid on it, and by morning there was more, as if it had dripped from above. Since the front desk never responded, we couldn’t report it or find out what had caused it. We were a couple staying one night at Paradise Lodge and Bungalows. The room looked tidy when we arrived, but the stay was very disappointing. It was so cold we didn’t feel comfortable taking our coats off. The heater control was already at maximum, and after about 2h the room still hadn’t warmed up. We tried contacting the front desk for help and got no response, so we had to put up with the cold all night.

We held our small wedding ceremony on the property, and the staff helped make the day perfect. They were kind and attentive from when we first booked a year earlier through the stay itself. Paradise Lodge and Bungalows is small and cozy, with quaint rooms that were clean and comfortable. Lake Louise is very close. We didn’t walk there ourselves because we had a private shuttle to Moraine and Lake Louise, but the walk looked doable if you’re up for a little effort. We stayed two nights with our families and loved it from start to finish. A charming, well-kept place with wonderful staff and a hard-to-beat location.
