The rooms and the view are lovely, and we met some great fellow guests. But the way we were treated outweighed all of that, and we won't be returning after two visits. We came to Cape Breton for the long weekend for a second year, bringing our small dog because the inn is pet friendly and we love the area. On arrival, the front desk woman looked disgusted by our dog and tried to charge the $29.50 pet fee again, even though it had already been charged when we booked. When I pointed that out, she cancelled the extra transaction in a panic. I later spotted a 3% tourism fee and 15% tax on the bill. I understand the $29.50 pet fee, but Nova Scotia tax is now 14%, and I haven't received a reply to my email asking about those charges. The stay itself was $500 for two nights. We let the billing issues go and carried on happily. At checkout, while we were loading the car, the woman opened our room to start cleaning and waved at us with a nasty look. My fiancée went over to check if she needed anything. She said “nothing,” so my fiancée explained that she'd seen her waving and just wanted to make sure. As my fiancée, who had worked as a hotel housekeeper for years, turned away, the woman snapped, “next time you stay at a hotel, leave the towels in the bathtub.” Then she made a show of shaking the towels outside the door and glaring at us. We'd hoped to make this a tradition because it's a nice spot with a great view and welcomes dogs, but that's no way to treat paying guests. At $250 a night, we can find somewhere with better service. Hopefully management changes and starts treating customers properly. The great rooms, location, view, and other guests couldn't make up for the terrible management and customer service.

The patio has a great view, and it was quiet, so it worked well for an overnight stop on the Cabot Trail. The shower had strong pressure and the room came with all the useful travel bits. It was clean, though a little worn, and I had to straighten the sheets because they weren't properly on the bed. The desk clerk felt a bit off-putting, but was still helpful.

We ate breakfast at the inn even though it wasn't included, and it was clean, reasonably priced, and delicious. My Eggs Benedict and my partner's special #1 both came with real home-cut fried hash browns. I couldn't finish mine. Our room had a very comfortable, probably fairly new mattress. We bring our own pillows, but the ones there were good quality too. It had recently been updated, with a nice sliding door opening outside to chairs where we could sit and relax. No carpet, which I hate, and the bathroom and floors were super clean. The whole property was tidy and well maintained. It's right on the Cabot Trail and easy to find. The dining room's big windows look out over the water. The owner served us himself and was lovely. I'll definitely go back when family visit and want to do the Cabot Trail.

The photos really don't show how nice this place is. We were very happy with our stay, and it surpassed what we expected. Our clean room had a balcony with an amazing view, plus a microwave and fridge. There was ice in the lobby, and check-in was easy and accommodating.

The beds were so comfortable, the rooms spotless, and the bathrooms spacious. Everyone working there was really nice, and breakfast was very good with generous portions. I especially recommend the English muffin sandwich, it was delicious and filling. The location is perfect, close to a beautiful beach that seems made for watching the sunset.
