Quality Inn Mont-Laurier

We were disappointed and won’t be back. A delivery truck parked right outside our room, and diesel exhaust poured in through the exterior door, waking us up. We also had to pay $8 for two coffees after our first night, since breakfast isn’t included. I was told coffee is free for guests staying in the “hotel” section, not the “motel” section. We’d requested a king bed, but got a ground-floor room for $225 a night. It smelled of cigarettes, which we reported because we’d read another review about a guest being charged a fee and blamed for smoke. The toilet was inches from the tub and almost too tight for my husband, and it plugged up. We didn’t like the bed, and the room was otherwise outdated. For the same price, the Super 8 across the street offers breakfast and a full hotel.

I had a great recent stay for a sledding trip. The pool was very clean and relaxing, and the location was convenient, with a restaurant nearby. The staff were very friendly. Highly recommend.

The bed was comfortable, and I could get free coffee at the front desk. Those are about the only good things I can say. For more coffee pods for the machine in my room, staff would hand over only two at a time, with no greeting or smile. I felt like a nuisance, and they didn’t seem willing to help when I didn’t get the microwave that was supposed to be in my room. My room was small, old, and dirty, with hairs stuck to the bathroom wall. The shower seemed to have hot water for no more than five minutes, and the temperature would suddenly swing from extremely cold to very warm. The toilet kept making noise. There was no sound insulation at all. I heard the maids talking and cleaning, neighbors talking, walking and peeing, their kids running, yelling and banging day and night, plus traffic and parking lot noise. I was on the second floor, with a door straight out to the parking area. It was covered in snow and ice, and I actually slipped, though direct access to my car was handy. I travel a lot for work, and this was one of my worst hotel stays, if it even counts as a motel. I really wish I’d booked my usual place, Best Western.

The room smelled odd. It wasn’t overpowering, but noticeable. I stopped noticing it after about half an hour, though I can still catch a hint of it. I only checked in, so I can’t really judge the service, which might have earned a 5. For what they charge, I expected better. The room needs repairs, and the fit and finish are awful. Some trim has been pulled off the wall, with nails sticking out, and the door looks as if it’s been kicked in.
