The location is nice and the room itself was decent, so there’s potential here. But the service was terrible, the bathrooms were awful, and the whole stay felt disappointing and soulless. Calling this a “Bed and Breakfast” feels like a joke when the food isn’t cooked for you: you have to order it before 11 pm the day before and make it yourself. It felt like someone was lazily running another property just to make money, assuming guests would pay and overlook the reviews, as I did. I hope they take pride in serving people and improve what’s wrong. There’s no staff on site, so you’re left to manage everything yourself. The keypad entry was confusing, and I had to call and wait for someone to answer, only to be told to find an email sent from a different address than the first one from “La Maison De Mile End.” Apparently the property uses two names, “Bernard Bed & Breakfast” and “La Maison De Mile End.” After 10 to 20 minutes of tedious check-in, tired and cold, I got in but couldn’t find my room. The details were in the email, and I learned it was downstairs. I shouldn’t have had to spend all that effort figuring things out when someone could have checked me in and shown me where to go. My room faced the street and had no desk. That part was on me, but the website only has one photo per room and lists amenities in very general terms. More room photos and a property map would help. I wanted somewhere quiet and isolated where I could work, and wouldn’t have chosen this room if I’d known there were other rooms away from the street. The bathroom was another mess. The restroom trash looked rummaged through, with toilet paper on the floor and the lid off, and the shower bath mat was soaking wet. I had to pick things up myself. Then the toilet tank had no water, so it wouldn’t flush. The upstairs toilet was the same the next morning, 3/15/25. I used a kitchen recycling bin trash bag, filled it with water, and flushed that way. No guest should have to do that. The bathtub looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned in ages, and the shower curtain was crusty. For what I paid, this was unacceptable. The pictures and videos may be gross, but they show what it was like.

Everything was unbelievably bad. The accommodations were filthy, especially the bathroom, and the door system kept locking us out of the rooms. For three days, two of us were given just one incredibly dirty towel to share. There’s a photo attached showing how it looked when we got it.

The room was cozy and seemed reasonably clean, and the Wi-Fi was surprisingly good, but everything felt very old and basic. There was no soap, and a gap under the balcony door let in a cold draft all night. The convenience store across the street was essential for basic needs. There’s no staff on site, and reaching them was extremely frustrating. The phone line only asks you to leave a message, and live chat didn’t respond. Do the check-in ahead of time. The process takes a while and gives no feedback. We were left outside for 30 minutes waiting for the key code by email.

The room had a lovely old Montreal minimal look, with cozy white cotton bedding, a feather pillow, and beautiful narrow-strip vintage hardwood floors. There’s also a shared kitchen and a nice outdoor patio. I hesitated because of the reviews, but was running out of options and ended up having a great stay. The other guests were mature, mostly European, culturally informed, and a range of ages, so conversation was easy and stimulating. There’s a cafe downstairs with amazing cafe au lait, and the location is hard to beat, close to St Viateur bagels and lots of other good spots. Admin communication is mostly by text. I did have to call a couple of times, and had to wait for the automated voicemail to finish before someone picked up, but they answered each time. Strongly recommend.

The room was really nice and felt like a hotel, and having AC was great. At first, communication was a bit difficult for me, but the staff were amazing during the stay. They let us stay later if needed and were accommodating about an extra guest. Ordering breakfast was hard for me. They showed me where to find it on the website, but I couldn’t work it out, so unfortunately I missed it. Even so, it was a great experience. I’d rebook if I need somewhere to stay in mtl.
