New Residence Hall

The room was functional, which is what we expected since it’s a student residence during the school year. We booked a suite with a living room, but no kitchenette, just a microwave. Staff were friendly and easy to communicate with. The location is great, close to amenities, and Old Montreal is about a 20 minute walk away. There’s connected underground parking for $20 a day.

On moving day, I was told to drop my daughter’s belongings beside the front door, then park across the street. When I came back, I sanitized my hands and started moving things into the hallway to wait for the elevator. Each time I took one step outside to get more, a staff member told me to sanitize again. I asked if he was serious, and he said it was company policy. I followed the instruction, putting down whatever I was carrying to sanitize before continuing. Company policy, or a lack of common sense? Moving out wasn’t much better. Two of the four elevators were out of service, and we weren’t allowed to use the moving elevator. Didn’t staff or management think to make sure the elevators worked before move-out days? Another time, I was in Montreal to pick up some things for a friend. I’m not from the city and find driving around there frustrating, but I happened to be nearby. My contact knew where New Residence Hall was, so we agreed to meet there. As soon as I pulled up, opened the trunk, and started to get the items, a staff member rushed out and ordered me to leave immediately. I asked for one minute; she said no and kept demanding that I go, so I left. There was nothing illegal, by the way. I don’t want to put Montreal down, but some of the staff here are rude. I don’t usually write reviews, but management should know about my experience at this new Residence Hall. Some staff seem rude, or perhaps that’s what management expects. It costs $1400+ per month for half a room. I hope not every place in Montreal is like this.

The breakfast is included in the price and was good. The cook was fantastic and very friendly, though I’ve forgotten his name. He’s from Fiji. The location is also very good for downtown, within walking distance. The room was comfortable, but the washrooms need renovating.

The conference rooms worked well for the conference and breakout presentations we attended. The breakout room screen was readable, though it could have been a bit bigger. The carpets leading to the conference area show years of student foot traffic.
