Gîte Shézelles

The location is great, and the owner was courteous, but that was about all I liked. Everything else felt very precarious. When I booked, the photo showed a room with a bathtub, so I thought that's what I was renting. Apparently that room doesn't exist, which seems like false advertising to me. The room itself isn't really a room. There's no window, only a skylight, and no ventilation apart from a fan. It feels like it was thrown together in a hurry to fit in more guests. The owner calls it the "Japanese room" because it has two sliding doors, French style, but they do nothing to block noise. It faces the dining room and kitchen, where guests sit for breakfast and chat. If you're in that cubicle, you hear everything and have to get up when everyone else does. If you're coming to Montreal for nights out and just need somewhere to sleep, this isn't the place. I also found a brown stain on the sheet at bedtime. I don't know what it was, and I'd rather not know. I like to enjoy every minute in the city, so I get back late. Like anyone who wants to be clean, I also want a bath before bed, but here you can't take one without disturbing other people. And the bathroom doors don't have latches or locks. Good luck.

The location was great, but it gets hot in summer and there's only a small AC. I also didn't get the room I'd requested.

A cute spot for a romantic getaway, with lots of places to eat and shop nearby. The subway is very close too.

Friendly people, a clean place, and a nice breakfast. A great place to stay.
