LE 402 - Hostel

For the price, I'd stay again. It was nowhere near as expensive as anything else around, and the area was fantastic. We could walk to Eaton and Bell centre in about 30 minutes, and it was a beautiful walk that didn't feel that long. A gentleman who worked there helped us figure out how to get into the rooms. Noise was the main issue. There was nothing to block sound, so we could hear everyone's conversations in their rooms. At 8am I could hear everything the cleaning lady was doing, which made it hard to sleep in. Our sheets were clean, but had a huge stain that looked like urine or coffee, and that put us off a little.

The staff were nice, but this was the worst hostel I've ever stayed at. There were bed bugs in the sheets, bugs in the shower, a dirty bathroom, and a stench of urine. It was a disaster. We had no light in the room for two days, and it was probably 50 degrees Celsius in there. The door was easy to open and actually opened by itself during the night. Avoid this hostel at all costs. I'm surprised they have permission to operate in that condition.

I'm changing my rating from 3 to 1. I accidentally left my charger behind and called the next day. They said they'd call back, but never did. I tried calling a couple more times, then they stopped answering. Really disappointing. In my original stay, I had room 2. The windows didn't open, so it felt stuffy, though it was okay otherwise. The location was perfect. I also wish there were a way to choose our own door code or get a unique key.

The best part was being right in the heart of Old Montreal, so my boyfriend and I could walk to most places during our five nights. The owner was kind and brought us an extra fan, which helped since the windows wouldn't open for fresh air. The room had a few frustrations. Our mattress sloped enough that sleeping normally made blood rush to our heads, so we switched around and slept with our heads at the footboard. One pillow was nearly as thin as the blanket, and they had no spare when I asked. We also could have used nightstands and hooks for wet towels and dirty clothes, which wound up on the headboard and vanity chair. It's decent if you'll be out most of the time, but those little inconveniences took away from the stay.
