The Latin Quarter is right outside, with loads of places to eat, drink, and find activities just steps away. I didn't feel unsafe around there, and most people were friendly and out having a good time. The room was quiet at night despite all the activity, and it was clean and comfortable, if small. Staff kept to themselves but helped when I needed them. I used it as a base for exploring, which suited me perfectly, and the price was very reasonable. There's a tea and coffee machine near reception, with excellent coffee, plus free apple juice and water. Bring your own hair dryer, iron, and kettle, since none were provided.

The price was good, and the rooms were clean. There's complimentary coffee, tea, water, and apple juice by the entrance. The location is lively and convenient, right by a public transit hub. I heard everything through the thin walls, as if a window were open, and there was music from events in the park beside the hotel. The air conditioning was far too strong for the first couple of days, then stayed at a normal temperature for most of the rest of my visit. Maybe the ducts need cleaning, as other reviews have suggested. The blankets' odd pattern made them look dirty, and the staff don't speak English. For the price, it was decent, with nothing completely unacceptable.

The location was a lifesaver after my travel plans changed. I needed somewhere affordable and safe in Montreal, and Hôtel Quartier Latin was close to lots of restaurants and attractions. There's a small grocery store about two blocks away, and I could keep what I bought in the room fridge. I only had one bag and didn't mind carrying it up a few flights, but the stairs could be a problem if you have bags to carry or trouble with them. The place isn't fancy, but it had what I needed for a comfortable stay, including basic toiletries. I ended up watching TV when I arrived because I felt unwell after a long train trip. I couldn't find the breakfast area shown in some photos. The linens and towels were clean, though some were worn, and the carpet and a few other things could use updating. The decor took me back to my childhood as a '90s kid, which I liked. There's a Luggage Hero location in a barber shop down the street, handy for leaving bags for a few hours before or after check-in. I booked two nights at first, planning to stay with friends, but a misunderstanding meant I needed a room again. The man I think was the owner, who was often at the front desk, helped me right away and found me a room. He also gave me a very reasonable weekend rate despite how little notice I had. I stayed four nights altogether, two in each room. My first room was near the middle of the building, facing a wall, so there wasn't street noise. The second was downstairs at the back, overlooking a parking lot. The hotel is on a very busy pedestrian street that's closed to vehicles, so I'd ask for a middle room if street noise bothers you. One night I saw a band setting up nearby, but they'd packed up by the time I got back. There's at least one theater about a block away, and the nightlife and restaurant options are close. The service was friendly and wonderful. Don't miss the beautiful ceiling in the lobby. I wish I'd asked about the building's history, and I'd consider staying here again when I'm back in Montreal.

My room was below the check-in desk, so every time a cabinet opened, a chair moved, or the front door slammed, we heard it. The location made it easy to reach the metro and several POIs, but the city stayed noisy at night too. Earplugs helped, though the beds were so stiff that I really missed my own bed. The toilet wasn't fixed to the floor, the windows didn't open and close properly, and one was simply taped shut with duct tape. There were burns on several things, including the sheets and shower curtain. On the plus side, hot water came quickly and the pillows were pretty nice.

It's cheap, but the only thing I liked was the price. There's no air conditioning, so sleeping meant sweating. The location is okay, but you hear people outside and inside through the thin walls. The carpets were dirty, the sheets torn, and one window cracked. The tiny room had too many chairs and a little table, as if someone had just thrown them in. There was also a strange smell I can't describe. Other reviews mention mold, so that might be it. Don't stay here. You're better off in your car or at pretty much any other hotel.
