Bay Lake Inn (Frontiersman Motel)

Our first visit was pleasant, though the place is shabby and run down, if fairly clean. This time, after we called ahead and were told there was a room, we arrived to find it fully booked except for a king room that cost $75 more than our stay three weeks earlier. We'd called for a different room, and the owner's employee wouldn't honor the price we were told. A fair owner would have charged what we were quoted. The king room had just one blanket and two pillows. With no headboard and long curtains over the bed's window, I was worried I'd pull them down and slept terribly. We couldn't use the balcony either. The hallway door, which we'd been told never locks, locked while we were walking the dogs. We had no key for that extra door and needed help getting back into the suite. Not fun. I wouldn't stay in room 14 again, and I wouldn't stay here again.

At check-in, a staff member made an insulting, unprovoked remark about my friend's size. It was hurtful and completely inappropriate. We expected basic courtesy and respect, but were met with judgment instead. That behavior reflects badly on the organization, and I hope management takes the staff member's lack of professionalism seriously.

Affordable, available, and the staff were spectacular. The motel is right on Highway 11 in northern Ontario, with a gas station and lots of things across the street. There's a lake behind it where you can fish, and it's pet friendly. Thanks for a pleasant stay!

The friendly staff were the best part of this motel. The room had dirty sheets, a dirty tub and carpet, mismatched curtains, and a sticky TV remote that we had to clean. There was no inside safety latch on the door, which felt unsettling. At over $92 with tax, it wasn't worth the price. It's in a good location, and I hope they start taking care of the property again.
