I'm a 19-year-old woman and was checking in alone at the glengates hotel. I'd booked one night for two people on booking.com for $67. I asked the man at check-in how much it would cost to add another night, including what I'd already paid, and he said $171. The man told me his name was “Ananehu” when I asked. As I finished checking in, he took my debit card and said he'd charge it, then gave me the keys and said there were two cards in the envelope. Upstairs, I found only one. I went back to ask about the second card, and he searched around, including his pockets, then pulled it from his left pants pocket and scanned both cards again. I went back to my room to wait for my boyfriend, who I had been waiting for in the first place. It felt very unprofessional and made me uncomfortable. Later, there was confusion because the booking was only for one night. We went down to explain that I'd asked the previous night to add another night to my card. The extra night was going to cost $200, more than I wanted to pay, so we decided to pack and leave. While we were packing, Ananehu called the room and said the room would cost $220 for the night, but he could give us 10% off to make it $200. I assume his boss then took the phone and said the right price was $180. I still thought that was too much and didn't want to pay it. I asked Ananehu why he'd put the key card in his pocket. He said they were running low on cards and he needed to keep one. I told him that was fine, but he should have said so instead of telling me there were two cards in the envelope, and keeping it in his pants pocket wasn't secure. He apologized and said it was unprofessional, but that he needed the extra card and hadn't lied. I felt unsafe. If a hotel needs to keep an extra key card, they should tell the guest and store it somewhere more secure, like at the front desk. Given the hotel's condition, I don't think $220 for one room for one night is reasonable.

They let us check in an hour early after we called to say we were travelling with young kids and running ahead of schedule. We really appreciated that. The staff were the bright spot throughout, humble, polite, and providing top-notch service. The stay was comfortable enough, but this is a value-for-money place, so don't expect much. It's about a 15-minute walk or 7-8 minute drive to the falls and Cliffton Hills, and parking on site is free. The premises felt pretty old and poorly maintained. Both rooms had old, slightly smelly carpets, ripped and stained wallpaper, and sheets that weren't in pristine shape. The beds were comfortable, but the bathroom was so small that more than one person couldn't stand in it. For one night it was okay, but I'd think twice about staying longer. The breakfast room is a decent size and well equipped, but breakfast itself wasn't as good. It's continental, and we had to ask several times for missing items.

Free parking and reasonable prices were a plus, and the location was decent. You can get daily room service if needed, and there's an on-site cash withdrawal machine. My room was fairly comfortable, enough for a short stay. The breakfast was basic with no variety, and tables in the kitchen area were often left dirty after other guests. The walls were thin enough that I could hear the next-door guest turn on the shower or flush. Hallway carpets were worn and smelled a bit. It was okay for a brief visit, but I wouldn't stay longer.

The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the breakfast was A1, a great start to the day. The Glengate Hotel & Suites is conveniently close to Niagara Falls and the main attractions, but the area is quiet enough to relax. For the price, it's a great deal compared with nearby places. My main frustration was the room key. It stopped working constantly, so almost every time I left I had to go to reception to get it reprogrammed. Staff thought I was keeping it near my phone or keys, but it failed even when I kept it separate. That got pretty annoying. The hallway carpet was clean and in decent shape, but its color and texture made me feel a bit dizzy or trippy walking through. The decor feels dated, and parking can get tight at peak times. Still, it's a comfortable, well-located hotel with good value.

The staff were great and very accommodating, from check-in with ahsim to check-out with Supremo, and the lady who served us a lovely pancake. The room is a bit old, but it's still a nice place to get some rest if you're not fussy. It's budget-friendly, in a good spot about a 10-minute walk from clifton hill, and works fine for a weekend getaway.
