Travelodge by Wyndham Niagara Falls Lundys Lane

We had the huge jacuzzi queen room, with lots of legroom and space for two to sit comfortably. The beds are modern, and the front desk staff and manager worked really hard to help guests when the cleaning staff called in sick during a snowstorm. They even gave me a free late checkout until 1 pm, which was just what I needed to rest. The hotel is pet friendly too, and I saw a few cute dogs. It's an older-looking place and could use upgrades to the curtains and furniture, but the friendly staff made that easier to overlook. Breakfast is continental, with boiled eggs as the only hot option, plus bagels, yogurt, muffins, toast, coffee, tea, juice, and a few other things. That suited us during the storm, especially since I didn't want to drive in the snow. Our heater was noisy and the toilet flushed on its own, but those things didn't bother us much. The hotel did offer to move us. It's an affordable place to stay, and some rooms are being updated.

We've stayed here before and usually enjoy it, but the service this time left us unhappy. There was just one lamp in our room, and we had to ask three separate times for another because it was so dark. A few other small problems came up, though we could live with them. It seems to have become a place for long-term residents, and the hotel has gone downhill somewhat. I heard they were all given eviction notices and had to leave by mid-September. I hope that means the property will be brought back up to the standard it used to have. The location is still good.

The whole hotel smelled awful, and even after switching rooms I still couldn't feel clean. The sheets were stained, the tub was dirty, there were bed bugs, and the door locks were broken. The replacement room was a downgrade and smelled of cigarettes and dead bugs. Disgusting and disappointing. Never again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, even my worst enemy.

We noticed the problems almost as soon as my father, brother, and I entered for our weekend stay. The lights didn't work, the smoke detector kept going off every 2-5 minutes, and the sheets had big stains. Within minutes, we also found a bug in the bed. Several other guests told us they'd found bugs in their rooms too. We asked the front desk to cancel and refund us, but the staff laughed at us and basically accused us of lying. They wouldn't refund the stay until an inspector confirmed there were bugs. We were told we should have moved rooms instead of finding another hotel. The inspection later confirmed bugs, and we got a full refund. It was the worst hotel experience my family and I have ever had. Do not stay here unless you want to go home emotionally, and possibly physically, scarred and covered in bugs.
