Town and Country Motel in Nipigon

This little mom-and-pop motel was a welcome stop. The owner was lovely, and the place was clean and clearly well cared for. It had all the basics, and we got a decent night’s sleep. I’d stop again.

Tucked away off the main highway, this motel has clean, renovated rooms and friendly staff. I’ll definitely stay again.

The owners clearly care about the place and keep it in good shape despite its age. The room was older but well maintained, with clean, comfortable bedding and no strong chemical smell like you sometimes get in motels. It felt fresh without being over-sanitized. There was everything I needed: a proper queen-sized bed, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and AC. Nothing fancy, just clean and functional. It’s right off the highway, which made it super convenient for my road trip. Compared with some areas in Thunder Bay where I’ve stayed before, I felt much safer here, without worrying about sketchy neighborhoods or parking. If you need a clean, quiet place to rest near the highway, this is a solid option. I’ll stop here again when I’m in the area.

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and after a long day driving, the location was just where I needed it. The bed was okay, and the sheets were clean, both welcome after hours on the road. Still, I’d rate the Town and Country Inn in Nipigon about 4/10, if the best place I’ve stayed is a 10/10. The room was very run down, with old, worn furniture and tired decor that badly needs renovation. The walls were paper thin. I heard my neighbor coughing his guts out and traffic passing all night. For the price, I expected much better. If it were a budget motel, I could overlook the rough condition, but it’s poor value for the money. Hotel ratings can be confusing. Sometimes the “better crappy places” seem to get 8/10, while the “crappy nicer places” get only 6/10, even though the lower-rated one is actually better. The Town and Country Inn seems to land somewhere in that muddled middle, not terrible, but not as good as the numbers might suggest. Convenient location and pleasant staff, but noisy, dated, and overpriced. Fine for an emergency stop, though I wouldn’t plan to stay again.
