Holiday Inn Express Edmonton-International Airport

The room we had on our first visit, back in September, was clearly newer and actually nice. The last two rooms have been another story: stained, crunchy carpet, an old cigarette smell, and a pretty run-down feel. On our most recent night we were beside the rear exit, and the door started slamming at 3 a.m. They might want to put in a slow closer. It works for a one-night stop, and we were only there while waiting for our flight, but I’ll probably look elsewhere next time. When you complain at the desk, they just seem surprised and don’t know what to do with anything that isn’t positive. They look like deer in headlights when accountability comes up.

We booked two nights online through a third party and arrived ready to pay the deposit. They required a physical card and wouldn’t take cash, debit, or a digital Visa, so despite having our cards on our phones, we were refused the room. They also wouldn’t refund us, saying it was too late to cancel and that we might not get our money back. We were told to call the next day for the manager, but the person who answered wouldn’t let me speak to them and sent us in circles. Eventually the funds were transferred to the third party, who handled the refund. They said we were lucky to get it because the hotel had claimed we never showed up. I absolutely did. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and have never had this happen.

Breakfast had a good range of tasty choices, and the bed was comfortable enough for a great night’s sleep. My room was spotless and well kept, and the hotel had a warm, welcoming feel that made me feel at home. The service was just as good from the moment I arrived. The staff were very friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. I had a wonderful stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Edmonton and would gladly come back. I’d recommend it if you want a clean, comfortable place with great service.

The room was clean, but it felt old, and the train noise was so loud it seemed to run right through the room and kept me awake. We arrived in the middle of winter to find the heat wasn’t on. I’d wanted a warm room.
