The clean mattresses and linens were a plus, and if you just need somewhere to sleep, it’ll do. But the rooms felt sparse, with an awkward layout, carpet, and very little lighting. It has a motel setup, so the windows face a hallway and there’s no natural light. The washroom faucets in my room didn’t work properly, and the amenities were sparse too. I stayed in the offseason, when the rate was close to some nicer resorts. I couldn’t book a resort room because of availability, but I was still very let down. They shouldn’t charge what they do, especially when other area hotels can be had for only a little more. I’m not sure how this place had a four-star rating when I wrote this.

The pool was the big draw for my daughter, especially the waterslide, and she did have fun. But there was grime along the pool and sand settled on nearly every side, with dirty tiles. I didn’t want to stay in there long. The lobby was nicely decorated and cool, and the breakfast area seemed similar, so I felt good about the place at first. Our room was a letdown. It didn’t feel as clean as I expected from Coast Hotels: fruit flies in the bathroom, a very dirty bathroom window, and I hesitated to use the dishes after seeing the sponge I assumed the previous guest had used to clean them. The kitchen itself was satisfactory. The room’s location made things worse. The building design creates two corners where hot, bad-smelling air gathers because the AC units vent there. At 40 degrees, my daughter and I dreaded going from the upper floor out to the second-floor balcony and back through the indoor hallway to swipe into our room. These issues seemed partly beyond the owner’s control, but I was still surprisingly disappointed. There seems to be a staffing and maintenance problem at this location right now. I understand the economy is tough, but paying $300 a night for this experience left me disappointed. I was glad breakfast was included, and the woman working there was quiet but very friendly and ready to help.

The scenery, sandy beach, and location were the highlights, and for the price I thought it was good value. There’s a sandy beach behind the property with lovely lake views, and another across the street. Staff were friendly, and the rooms and grounds were clean, aside from cobwebs in a hallway window. My room had a kitchenette and a good set of essentials. There’s a pool with a slide and a hot tub, plus a complimentary continental breakfast. It leaned heavily toward carbs, with only hard-boiled eggs for protein, but they did have freshly brewed Starbucks coffee every morning. Parking is tight and filled up quickly even on weekday evenings. One night I had to park on the street, so maybe the owners could provide nearby overflow parking.

The Coast made our girls’ birthday night away so much better. We had wine, the waterslide, free snacks, a great breakfast, and a beautiful lake view. Everyone was so kind and accommodating to all of us. I’ll be back with my grandkids.

We had a fantastic one-night stay in late October. The friendly front desk guy was helpful and informative, and we got a free upgrade. Breakfast was a nice little spread, including a pancake maker. Thanks from room # 216. J & Y - Victoria BC We’d definitely stay here again.
