Days Inn by Wyndham Ottawa Airport

I stayed three nights at the Days Inn by Wyndham Ottawa Airport and was very disappointed. The manager wasn't available while I was there, and when I finally spoke with him at checkout, he refused compensation for the first night and offered only "points." I had asked repeatedly for compensation and to speak with him because the room wasn't in proper condition. On the first night there was no shower curtain and the sink was completely clogged. I had to wait that night for someone to install a curtain, and the sink wasn't fixed until the next day. I asked to change rooms but was told it wasn't possible. I expected better service and accountability from a Wyndham-branded hotel, and can't recommend this property.

The staff were friendly, and the beds were clean, but I probably wouldn't stay again. We were on the third floor for one night, thankfully, because kids were running around and making noise at all hours on the first floor, seemingly unattended. There were school buses picking up a lot of kids in the morning, and it seemed the hotel might be used for emergency housing or something similar. Just something to know before booking. The hotel had a bad smell, with the lobby and stairwell carpets smelling like vomit, and the elevators were dirty and run down. At 9pm, fire alarms went off and we had to evacuate through the stairwells and wait for the fire department to clear the building. Our room was outdated, with mold in the bathroom, stains on two fabric chairs, and broken items including the toilet paper holder and security latch. There were gummies in the heating and cooling unit. Breakfast was subpar, just coffee, juice, some fruit, bagels, donuts, and cereal, with no protein like eggs or meat.

Within half an hour, we decided to leave and find another hotel. The odor in the room was so horrific it made us physically sick, and when we looked around with a flashlight, the room was clearly dirty. We'd booked a jacuzzi tub room, but the tub was stained and we weren't comfortable using it. In the lobby we'd already noticed an odor. Kids were screaming and running around barefoot, with no parents in sight. The front desk was less than helpful. They offered another room, but by then the smell had made me so nauseous that I wasn't staying. They refused a refund under their policy, saying the booking was through a third party. We walked out and went elsewhere. I checked other reviews afterward, and their complaints matched what we experienced, even though we were there briefly. I'm extremely disappointed with Expedia too. When I asked about a refund, they said they'd call the hotel, but the hotel said no. Since the hotel stressed that Expedia was a third party, I hoped Expedia would offer better support. It felt like once you see the condition, you're just out of luck after paying.

We only stayed one night, so we didn't complain, but both queen beds were awful. The springs felt uneven and both mattresses slanted, maybe because they were broken. The rooms were clean and orderly. We were overcharged by the third-party booking site and should have called the hotel directly for the best price.
