Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Penticton

The room was comfortable, clean, and had a responsive thermostat. Staff were great and very friendly. It’s well located between downtown and the highway, with great parking. This would’ve been a straight five stars, except the complimentary breakfast was lacking. We’ve stayed at cheaper hotels with much better breakfasts. Fantastic stay otherwise. We’re totally planning to come back, but also totally planning to go out and buy breakfast.

I’ve never stayed at a nicer hotel. The staff are absolutely fantastic. One morning I went downstairs and they greeted me with “Good morning, Miss Baird.” I was shocked and touched that they took the time to learn their guests’ names. Colleen, the manager, is especially helpful and easygoing. Tell her I sent you.

I can’t see why this hotel costs more than the nearby Four Points, because it was a downgrade. Sleeping is my main hotel priority, and Fairfield failed there. The beds are awful: hard mattresses, thin cheap Serta instead of a Marriott mattress, and pillows that are only okay but still feel like rocks on top of those beds. Four Points had much more luxurious sheets and beds. Service was polite but lacked the warmth of Four Points. The hot breakfast was low-end, McDonalds level, with no vegetables in sight. The towels were scratchy, the elevators seemed fragile enough to need warning signs, and somehow they couldn’t even get a toilet seat to fit properly. It feels like a very cheap build and franchise owner, and doesn’t live up to the Marriott brand.

We had our grandchildren with us, and the staff kept checking whether we needed anything. Breakfast changed daily, with some kind of egg and meat, plus bagels, oatmeal, yogurt, coffee, and juice each day. Waffle makers were out on weekends. The pool was nice and the water was a perfect temperature. The gym had updated equipment and a water station. Our granddaughter turned five during the stay. When General Manager Yogita Sochi heard, she decorated the room and got her a gift, balloons, and cupcakes. Our granddaughter was so happy, which made us happy. Front office manager Vivik Vinod also got a little toy for our three-year-old grandson so he wouldn’t feel left out. I don’t think they do this for every birthday, but I do think they truly care about guests’ happiness and making stays comfortable and special. Yogita and Vivik were amazing and went above and beyond. Thank you!
