This was disgraceful, and I would not recommend it. I stayed for a week at $600, then paid a $200 deposit. When I couldn’t afford to continue because of the price, I said I’d take what I’d paid and leave. I was passing through, had already said I was poor and couldn’t stay longer, and had told the owner that if they took my money I wouldn’t be able to pay my phone bill. The worker who went door to door so the boss wouldn’t have to speak to people except to receive money was, I believe, working illegally. He told me I could stay a few days while sorting things out and said he’d ask me to do a deep clean of the room. He said he wasn’t joking, and I agreed I could work it off and clean because there were so many cobwebs. About a week and a half later, confused about not being able to stay, I decided to leave and told the owner. He said I was in trouble and called me a “bad girl.” He then took $1,100 from me and required unpaid work for board for two weeks’ stay, even though I’d said I was poor and couldn’t stay any longer. It cost far more than other motels, let alone hotels. The men were scary.

The room was exceptionally clean, every surface and corner, and that exceeded my expectations. It was quiet at night and seemed well insulated. We only stayed one night, and the woman at reception was friendly and smiled. Highly recommended.

We stayed only because everything else was booked and we’d been told there was no cancellation. We spent four days there just to sleep. The room wasn’t clean when we arrived, and we had to clean the bathroom before using it. No housekeeping came during our stay. The comfortable bed was the only positive inside the room. When we raised the issues with the owner, I think, he just shrugged. The location earned five stars, since it’s just down the road from Skaha Lake. The playground photos are of that park, not the dirty motel. I’m not sure why there’s a woman on a motorbike on their website, unless that’s the missing housekeeper.

The room was never refreshed and the towels weren’t changed during my three-day stay. I also had trouble sleeping because the bed made a lot of noise whenever I shifted. The office was unattended most of the time. A short walk to the beach and an okay air conditioner were the motel’s best features. The bathroom was somewhat grimy, the towel rack was coming off the wall, and the tub drain badly needed snaking.

The room was a nightmare for my girlfriend and me. There were bugs, hair under the blankets, cockroaches, a filthy bathroom, and big gaps in the doors that let daylight through. Those are just a few examples. We booked online at the last minute over the long weekend because the photos looked decent and rooms were scarce. We figured we’d only sleep there, but we were very wrong. After we found another place and spoke to locals, we heard some serious horror stories. I won’t repeat them because they may be rumors, though honestly I believe them. I can only speak to our own experience. The manager refused a full refund. This place is a joke. Do not stay here.
