The staff we’ve met have been friendly, and the room was clean. But the noise has been hard to ignore. Water running next door is loud enough that I turned up the TV, and I can hear people talking on the phone just outside through the thin walls. Our room, 127, is beside an exterior door, so there’s also a steady shuffle of people going between the parking lot and the hallway. The tub doesn’t drain well while showering, either. Maybe it’s quieter later at night, and I know the motel can’t control noisy guests, but people should know what this part of the motel is like.

The nightly price for the RV area was reasonable, though the location was only mediocre. What really concerned me was the electrical safety. Of the outlets I checked, on both the 15A and 30A circuits, about 80% had serious problems, including hot neutrals, missing grounds, and hot grounds. We told the staff about it and got an indifferent response. If you bring an RV, check the plugs before connecting.

Dining choices at the hotel and nearby are pretty limited, so keep that in mind. Still, it’s a handy overnight stop when traveling from Port-aux-Basques toward places like St. Anthony. The setting is lovely and scenic, and the hotel has a cute feel even though it’s showing its age. The staff are very nice and try hard to make sure you’re happy with your stay.

The rooms were clean and nicely equipped, and the staff were friendly and easy to talk to. The food was the real standout. The halibut portions are huge and baked just right, while the moose dinner is filling and comes nicely presented with a gravy that goes well with it. And the figgy pudding is to die for.

The food was the best part for us. After trying plenty of chowders, this was easily our favorite seafood chowder, and the halibut dinner was delicious. The accommodations were clean, and the staff were great. Shirley and Stephen made us feel so welcome. Don’t miss this place.
