The Marmalade Motel

The bathroom was really cold without any heat, and the hot tub was only lukewarm. The room itself was clean and pretty, with a wonderful view. They’d left us a delicious treat and chocolates on the pillow, which was a nice touch. The payment situation was a huge issue for me. I called to book, but got voicemail, so with limited time I had to book online and pay the marketing levy. There wasn’t an office where I could stop in to pay, and the owner repeatedly knocked on my door at 8:30 am to collect payment, waking us up even though I could have paid the night before. I work shifts and was exhausted, and my boys had been playing basketball all weekend. We stayed to avoid the long drive and get some sleep.

The Marmalade Cafe in Sheet Harbour had great food. We loved the peaceful, quiet setting and those amazing views. Our cute llama room was a delight, beautifully decorated, with comfy beds and plenty of pillows. A small kettle would’ve been a nice extra, but otherwise the room was perfect.

The hosts kept in touch well, and the rooms looked just like the pictures. The view really has to be seen in person to appreciate it. It’s a lovely little motel in a very cute town, and well worth the short drive from Halifax for a weekend away. With the bakery and pizza restaurant alongside it, it makes a great base for exploring the area. We hope to come back and wish this family business all the best!

We stayed in the Boho room, which was spacious, very clean, and nicely decorated. The deck had gorgeous views, and the owner was friendly and available if we needed anything. The one downside for us was the lack of blackout curtains, so the room stayed quite bright while we were trying to sleep. That may be fine for some people, but we prefer a dark room. We’d highly recommend this motel!
