Seaside Escape

The view over Port Hood Harbour from our bedroom was spectacular, and Catherine and Frances made us feel right at home. They knew so much about the surrounding area that it felt like having our own tour guides. They were the best hosts of our 12-day trip to Cape Breton. Our stay at Gillies by the Sea was top notch, and we'd highly recommend this B & B.

We were lucky to be there when a large blue fin tuna was coming in, and Frances took us on a special tour of the fish dock. We'll never forget it. Catharine and Frances were perfect hosts, and we learned a lot about the area's history from them. We had an amazing stay in September 2021, with a spectacular view from our room. We highly recommend Gillies by the Sea!

Even through Hurricane Dorian, they took such good care of us and went the extra mile to make the stay pleasant. We felt like part of the family, they were so hospitable. The sun room had a wonderful view of the water and marina, and it was such a relaxing place to sit.

I stayed here with my partner, and we chose to wear masks in the common areas. I felt we were discriminated against for that. They said they weren't serving breakfast because of the pandemic, but the next morning we saw them serving it to other guests. They didn't offer any accommodations, such as outdoor dining, breakfast in the room, or a takeaway breakfast, and there was no reduced rate despite breakfast not being provided to us. Other bed and breakfasts make arrangements like these for COVID-19 protocols. I would not recommend staying here unless you're actively trying to get exposed to the delta variant and pay for a breakfast you won't get.
