We drove for hours through the mountains and arrived late, only to be told by their sister hotel, without much care, that nothing could be done. There was no offer to help, and I had to sleep in my car. Luckily, hotels in Port Hardy were attentive and compassionate, and helped us find a room. We stayed elsewhere from Victoria through the small villages we explored, and those places sent clear text or email reminders about check-in times and gave us great hospitality. This hotel values money over hospitality, from what I experienced, and the attitude was far more upsetting than the policy itself. Their no-show policy is buried in fine print, with no prominent warning. Looking through other reviews, I realized we weren't the only ones. Their canned replies just repeat the policy to justify the attitude. They need to communicate better and make the policy easy to see. Take the extra miles if you can and stay at the Glen Lyon in Port Hardy. Friendly, cozy, and nice.

The place was clean and nice enough, with a good location for walking to a nearby pub for dinner. Still, it felt oddly unwelcoming. Check-in is a short drive up the hill at another location, they have lots of rules posted, and they'll put a big deposit on your card. The proprietor's response didn't feel welcoming either. Yes, I know, rules are rules.

It was clean but very bare bones, and we had to leave a strange $250 deposit. Hope we get it back. The location is nice, right in the village center near the shops and restaurants and almost on the water, though there are no views.

For $185 a night, I found it underwhelming and overpriced, even allowing for the short season. The room was clean and fairly quiet, but very basic. Apart from the convenient location, I can't see recommending it as anything beyond a bed and shower. Spartan is the right word.

Don't book here if you might arrive late or be delayed by the ferry. Check-in closes at 11:30pm, and they won't refund you, give you a credit, or show any sympathy. When I said I'd had to sleep in my car, I got attitude from them, which I really didn't appreciate.
