Black Rooster Guesthouse

I spent less than five hours dealing with Bart in total: 45 minutes on the phone and two in-person conversations. He mostly talked about himself and how he runs the business alone and can’t afford to hire someone for the whole week. He offered them a place to stay and $150 for work, but nothing was in writing, so I’d have had to take his word for it. I’m glad I didn’t, because he did this after I told him on the phone I wouldn’t be coming in again.

The shared kitchen in the 201 building was nicely decorated and very clean, and the room itself was spotless with a really comfortable bed. It felt more like home than a hotel, which was great. A 10/10 stay, and I’ll definitely be back.

We stayed twice and found the rooms relatively clean both times, with private bathrooms that were well stocked and clean. There’s a basic shared kitchen and lots of parking at the front and back, though your room could be in any of three neighboring buildings. Service was great on both trips, with easy check-in and clear instructions for the rooms and arrival and departure procedures. On one visit, the front desk staff stayed late so we could check in after hours.

Our room still wasn’t ready two hours after the 3 o’clock check-in time.
