Heriot Bay Inn

We were made to feel unwelcome from the start when we tried to get dinner with our kids. We were shouted at as we stepped near the pub and sent to the “family area,” which was the lawn with three already-full tables, one occupied only by seniors. Staff said we could ask in the dining room, but at 6:30 p.m. it was about 70% empty and they told us we'd have to wait until 8 p.m. It was pretty clear they didn't want to serve families. The pub, lawn, and dining room seemed to operate like three separate businesses, each sending us to another one. No one seemed interested in taking our money for dinner. Strange, given this is one of the only options on a remote island. I wouldn't recommend dinner here, especially with kids.

The food was really tasty and we enjoyed our stay in one of the cabins. The beds could use an update.

The view is beautiful, which makes it a shame that the visit was so awful from beginning to end. Our server was Melissa, and she was grumpy and rude, and seemed like someone who didn't enjoy her job. We arrived well before the expected lunch rush, when there were very few people there, but she approached us as if she alone had to serve a hundred tables. My dad ordered the oyster burger and got four tiny, chewy, gross-looking oyster blobs; he barely ate any of it. My fish tacos were okay, as was my sister's salad. The server set the tone for the whole meal, so I wouldn't recommend this place.

The patio at Herons at the Heriot Bay Inn is gorgeous, with sunset views over the bay, and the food has been delicious each time we've eaten there this summer while visiting Quadra. There's a new young chef and sous chef this season, and things are looking promising. We recommend the arancini and tuna tataki starters, plus the sesame chicken and salmon mains. The feature pasta has also been very good every time we've had it.
