Heron Guest House

The renter, Linda, was even worse than the terrible house. We went on a family road trip along Canada's West Coast two months ago and found lovely country and friendly people almost everywhere, except for this disaster. Because of a double booking, we were offered a tent outside for barely any discount off the “house.” A few days later, after our kayak trip, we finally spent one night there because we'd already paid, but it was barely a shack you'd want to spend the day in. Don't book here.

Not your usual resort, this place is very different. It's laid-back and rustic, with seven or eight little houses, some with levels, and relaxed grounds. The friendly lady who runs it made us feel welcome. We had a great ocean view and could watch the Cortez ferry go back and forth right outside the bedroom window. Loved the place.

It's a big place with lots of rooms, a fabulous setting, and a great view. Handy for the local attractions, and full of quirky character. It wasn't the cleanest, though.

Feels like they're just here to make money. This is the awful side of the island. Wish they'd try harder to make the world a better place.
