Courtyard by Marriott Quebec City

The room was nice and had a good view, while the lobby and reception felt clean and new. Staff were welcoming. But the fridge was noisy, and the climate control took a long time to warm or cool the room. The coffee was cheap, and hotel parking was full after 8 pm. It felt much like a 3-star choice hotel. Those problems overshadowed the good points, and it wasn’t worth the price.

A basic, clean hotel near shopping and the freeway, used by what seem to be families and business travelers. The pool is nice and the gym is okay. There isn’t enough disabled parking to meet the legal requirements.

For more than $300 a night, I expected better, especially as a Lifetime Platinum Marriott member. This experience made us cut several days from our vacation. Google lists the courtyard by Marriott in Quebec as a four-star hotel, but I don’t see how it’s better than a two-star place. Room 825 had stains on the walls and patches of carpet missing. The shower pressure was very low even on the focused setting. Because the shower is open, there isn’t enough water coverage to stay warm, and water splashes onto the floor with no closing door. The French metal drain plate makes a high-pitched drum sound when water hits it. It was not a good experience. The outlets on the left side of the bed didn’t work properly: one was dead and the other overheated. Getting staff to follow through took several attempts, and the front desk was slow, with the line clogging the entryway. The laundry machines say $1.50 Canadian each for the washer and dryer, as staff confirmed, but using them for a full wash and dry cycle takes $7.00. Bring plenty of quarters. The views are of industrial sites and fast food restaurants. Be careful with the in-room coffee pot. The cheap plastic lid doesn’t line up, and pouring into the little paper cup they provide can burn you or spill coffee on you. The spout is so small that the coffee pours out uncontrolled over the edge. The only safe way I found was to remove the lid and slowly pour into the cup over the sink.

We booked this for our anniversary and had a negligent experience. After three days, nobody had come to clean our room, and no one had told us rooms are cleaned every two nights. We asked that morning to have it cleaned, but nobody came. As Bonvoy Members, we were treated very poorly. The customer service was the worst, and I’d advise people not to stay here. Worst experience ever.
