Clarendon Hotel

The location is the best thing about Clarendon Hotel, close to Chateau Frontenac, trendy restaurants, cute shops, and food options for any budget. The staff were friendly, the decor was nice, and the room was clean and laid out well. Mine was a bit small and looked onto an alley. I imagine I'd have been more impressed with one facing the community square and with two double beds. Still, it was a lovely low-season stay. One tip, valet parking can be pricey, and there's underground public parking nearby if you want a cheaper option.

Everywhere you look, there's amazing architecture, especially the imposing Hotel Chateau Frontenac. Our room looked out on City Hall and the Notre Dame church. The neighborhood is great for walking, with dozens of places to eat and at least 6-7 cafes for coffee. The food and history are everywhere. Consider a winter visit for Winter Carnaval and to see how the city embraces the cold. One of the best city trips I've ever taken!

The shower could be better. Water pressure is weak, so it takes longer than I'd like to get warm, and there's no heat vent in the bathroom. The heated floor helps, but not enough in winter. Everything else was so good I'd go back tomorrow. Great historic building, perfect location, quiet rooms with thick walls, and wonderful guest service staff, including the valet team. They're why I'll return.

I don't know if Clarendon really is the oldest hotel in Quebec city, as people say, but it's right in the center of the old area, so walking to the places we wanted to see was easy. I especially want to thank the front desk girl whose name I didn't get. When she heard this was my first visit to Quebec, she gave us a room with a great view, as shown in the photo. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom very clean. Of all my 12 days traveling through Toronto, Montreal, Quebec city, Ottawa, and Niagara falls, staying at Clarendon was the best experience. Next time I'm in Quebec city, I'll go straight back there.
