Hotel Belley

The room was spacious, with a separate bedroom and a nice kitchen. We booked at the Hotel Belley and got a large room in an adjacent building, away from the Tavern Belley, which made it nice and quiet. One improvement I'd suggest is a runner and a bench by the entrance, so guests can take off and store wet, snowy boots without tracking snow through the room.

Staff were great about moving us to Hotel St-Paul at no charge after plumbing problems, and it was a much better hotel. Our room itself was fine, but both the toilet and shower clogged, and there was black mold in the shower. We stayed one night before the move. Guests should know the bar downstairs stays open until 4-5am. Music vibrated through the floor, and patio guests could be loud, making it hard to sleep through the night. First-floor rooms need more soundproofing so hotel guests can enjoy their stay as much as the bar patrons enjoy their night out.

The unit itself was comfortable and clean, and the location was very good. But the units sit right above a late-night pub that plays extremely loud music until 4-5am. You can hear the music through the floor and people partying on the patio through the window. If a good night's sleep matters, don't book on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. These units are really only suitable for heavy sleepers or people who plan to stay out partying late.

On our second visit, a mix-up after the hotel's remodel could have caused a real hassle. The staff went out of their way to sort things out and put us in an apartment right across from the hotel. They have pet-friendly rooms, too. We'll definitely come back.
