Sea Raven Motel

Simple, clean, comfortable rooms, recently renovated. Great location and a great price.

I was glad I called ahead as a wheelchair user. The room labeled "accesible room" at the Sea Raven Motel only avoids the big step at the doorway that the other rooms have. Its bathroom still isn’t wheelchair accessible. When I asked about an accessible bathroom, I was told, "no, we don't do that." If I’d booked online, I wouldn’t have learned until arrival that I couldn’t use the bathroom here.

We only booked a night because a big wind storm made staying in a tent seem like a bad idea. The charge was $180, including a fee for two dogs, which we expected. The room was old but clean. We put sheets over the beds to keep dog hair off, turned the heat down and lights off as requested, returned the key, and got on the ferry. The next room stayed noisy, partying and having people knock on doors until 2:30 am, so we got no sleep. The room also had no smoke detector. The owner later texted that he was charging us $100 plus tax for cracking the toilet lid. The toilet had stopped flushing and needed the tank opened to reset it; setting the lid down cracked it. I wasn’t rough with it, and to me that points to wear and tear on a PINK toilet made 40 years ago. Charging $112 for a lid on a toilet that old? I also looked up a BRAND NEW TOILET at $189. The owner then claimed there had been a smoke detector in the room. It was NOT there during our stay; it was added later so he could photograph it. That makes me even more upset, and a business owner lying to us in a text is beyond disgusting. He’s trying to gaslight us and you into believing his lies. Scammers and liars. Do not ever ever ever stay here. I will NEVER stop telling people how awful this was. If you’ve read this and stay anyway, I’m sorry I couldn’t convince you, and I hope your experience is markedly better than ours.

Frank, the manager, made the stay feel personal. He was kind and genuine, got me a kettle for tea as soon as I mentioned it, sorted out my concerns, and shared useful tips about what to explore in DG. The room had its own nice bit of nature too. From my corner room I could see salmonberries, which brought in Sitka deer, and hear tree frogs in the evening. The Eagle Rock diner next to the Sea Raven was convenient, and its staff were just as lovely. A warm, down-to-earth and refreshing stay. I’d definitely return to a motel that feels right for a unique place like DG.
