Gite de la Baie Hatée

Cozy place with lots of character. The rooms are small but fine for one night, and the breakfast was good. There’s a fire pit outside you can enjoy late into the evening. Dannie was thoughtful enough to call when we were past check-in time and ask if we were running late.

Terrible experience. We had a reservation through booking, but the woman, who I think was the owner, forced us to cancel because we’d arrive 30 minutes after check-in. It was 9.30pm, not midnight or some impossibly late hour. She mocked us and called us liars. We were stranded on the road with no cell coverage, and she neither believed us nor seemed to care. Extremely inflexible and unprofessional. Seriously consider staying somewhere else, where they might care about guests. Places like this shouldn’t be in business.

We only stayed one night, but the place was clean and well organized. The owner was lovely, and breakfast was included and great. There are also beautiful outdoor spots to sit, eat, or chat.

My boyfriend and I were traveling around Gaspe Peninsula, and one of our last nights was planned for this area. Our car broke down on the way, somewhere without phone reception, so we couldn’t call the B&B. As soon as we could, we rang to explain what had happened and that we’d arrive after check-in time. She refused to wait, advised us to cancel, and said she’d keep one night as a penalty. She called us liars and said her home is very old and makes noise. It was the busiest week of the summer, and we were left without a room in the middle of nowhere. Way to go!
