The hospitality made our stay feel more like visiting friends than staying at an inn. Melanie and Dave were wonderful hosts, and their two friendly dogs were often lounging around. Breakfast was hearty each morning, with rhubarb marmalade as a favorite. After a long day exploring the East side of the island, Dave welcomed us warmly. We asked for drinks to enjoy on the cozy couches, and he had them ready by the time we came downstairs after settling into our room. Such thoughtful service. My husband and I spent three lovely nights in Room #10. It was spotless and comfortable, with a beautiful ocean view and Victorian-style decor. A real gem, and we'd happily return.

The ocean view was gorgeous. That was the one positive thing we took away from the stay. We paid $667 for two nights, but felt unwelcome from the moment we arrived and spent the time there mostly sleeping. We wanted to leave and forfeit our money. To be fair, the woman who checked us in was lovely. She greeted us and spoke to us like human beings whenever we saw her, so we'd give her five stars for service. The owner Melanie briefly greeted my husband but didn't look up to greet me. She came across as pretentious and condescending. If you're under 50, be prepared to feel like a second-class guest. At breakfast, my husband had barely sat down for two minutes before he was told to take off his hat. Apparently Melanie's husband has an unwritten no-hats rule. My husband had worn it throughout our vacation, and I asked him to fold it away so we wouldn't make a scene. We didn't enjoy the mediocre breakfast, and it certainly wasn't Michelin-star dining. This was advertised as an inn or hotel, but felt more like a shared rooming house in a large home divided into rooms. There were no microwaves, bar fridges, or TVs in the rooms. The shared fridge was small, and the ice machine struggled to fill the small ice bucket. You also have to take off your shoes at the door and leave them on a rack, so leave expensive shoes at home. I found the Bible in the dresser drawer offensive. It seems ideal for wealthy guests over 50. We're certainly not poor, and if we'd been treated like paying clients rather than children, we might have returned or recommended it to others. Next time we visit PEI, we'll spend the same amount on a proper hotel where the owners treat all clients with respect and care. We hope they treat their wonderful employees better than their “young” guests.

We had a fabulous time at Johnson Shore Inn. The food, rooms, and location were all superb, and hosts Mel and Dave made sure we'd leave with fond memories. 🙂

The inn is remote if you don't have a car, but there's good walking and beach access. We spent a day on the trails, then picnicked, read, and swam at the beach. They also offer shuttle services for Island Walkers. Johnson Shore’s location is jaw-droppingly beautiful. Follow the driveway for a mile and you'll reach the bluff, with views of both sunrise and sunset. Mell & Dave are lovely hosts, and both breakfast and dinner were delicious. Highly recommended!

We were so glad we found this B&B. Staying here was one of the highlights of our PEI trip, and it’s easy to see why many guests come back year after year. The place feels refreshing and almost magical, tucked away from the touristy areas beside a cliff overlooking the ocean. The sunsets are incredible, and you can see stars at night. Mel and Dave are genuine hosts who make an effort to get to know you and provide great service. Breakfast was yummy and generous, and we also tried dinner, which was a great experience. You can tell the food takes care and skill to make. The pets were one of the best parts. If you love animals, you'll enjoy the sweetest cat, who runs over to greet you, and two affectionate doggies who keep you company and ask to be petted.
