Walking Eagle Inn & Lodge

The restaurant, Grilles, is great. The wait staff are exceptional, and the food is always tasty. Rooms are cleaned daily, check-in and checkout are easy, and there’s plenty of parking. The issue was breakfast at 6 a.m.: there weren’t enough staff for the number of guests. Even though it was free, I had to go elsewhere to eat and still get to work on time.

The front desk and breakfast staff were amazing. But I found the two older women housekeeping in the middle building, one wearing a hat and the shorter one, very inappropriate. With a DND sign on my partner’s room, I’m almost certain they didn’t know I was inside. I sat there for a couple of hours listening to them talk about the male guests in that building, how they’d sleep with them, and similar things. In my opinion, that was very wrong, and the language was sad to hear in a hospitality workplace. When my partner got back later that day, I told him what I’d heard. He said that was why he kept his DND sign up: they’d been far too friendly with him, and he felt uncomfortable. The company books rooms there for its workers, so he feels he has little choice and doesn’t want to speak up and risk conflict where he sleeps.

I was amazed by how clean the room was. It was the cleanest place I’ve stayed in across Canada, even cleaner than big name hotels, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The restaurant was clean too, and the waitress was great. My one issue was that I’d asked for a bathtub but got a shower. I’d still stay here again.

When you’re in Rocky, this is a decent hotel to stay at. The rooms are clean enough, and the staff are good. All in all, decent.
