The Flying Steamshovel Inn

The gluten-free ramen had great flavor, especially the crispy pork. The place was lively, with lots of TVs showing games, and I liked that other gluten-free options were clearly marked on the menu. For anyone with celiac disease, be aware there isn’t a dedicated gluten-free fryer, so cross-contamination is possible. The fries are malted even though they’re listed as gluten-free.

Pub only. Service was excellent and the food came out quickly. The atmosphere is nice if you like big TVs visible from pretty much every table. The poutine was bland, and the smashburger had no noticeable crust. If I were serving it, I’d be embarrassed to call it a smashburger. The bun was nice, though. Three happy-hour dishes and one NA drink for $65 felt like mediocre value.

The atmosphere felt like a modern tavern, and the service was impeccable. Everyone was kind and friendly. I loved the poutine and had the best dark and stormy. They make their own spiced rum mix in-house, and it was so tasty. I didn’t stay at the Inn because it isn’t pet friendly. I’d love to stay there if they changed that policy.

I went to the restaurant with friends and had a great time. The fish and chips may have been the freshest I’ve ever had, and it was nice that they bring in local fish. The staff were friendly and quick without losing their personality, and they were compassionate when there was a misunderstanding about a food allergy. The shows and stage in the place are remarkable. I highly recommend checking out the range of local and touring talent that performs there. Don’t skip this stellar restaurant.
