1 & Only Riverside Accommodations

The stay was fantastic, and we were impressed by how clean everything was. The hot tub looked very well maintained. It rained while we were there, so we didn’t get to use the outdoor area. At night, I’d have liked blinds or curtains on the porch around the hot tub for more privacy. It felt a little scary not knowing whether anyone might be out there. Aside from that, we had a great stay and will return.

We’ve already booked a return for New Year’s, which says it all. We had the best time celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday. The place was super clean and quiet, and we made lots of use of the hot tub. We also had a fire in the pit every night. We didn’t get to kayak because it was windy, though kayaks, a canoe, and bikes are available for free. There’s also a sauna and a fitness area. Can’t wait to go back!

The setting is beautiful and the cottage itself is nice, but several things need attention. The furniture wasn’t very comfortable, and the bathtub in our cottage was so high that it felt dangerous to get in and out of. There was only one set of towels for each of us, no extras for the hot tub, and I’d suggest bringing your own. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned very well when we arrived, and its garbage was full to the brim. I also didn’t see a first aid kit in the cabin. More than one set of kitchen towels would be helpful too. There’s free firewood on site, but no kindling or paper to get a fire started. For what we paid, I think these things should be addressed.

The hot tub and the area around it were clean and fantastic, and the fire pit area was good too. Those are the reasons I’m giving two stars instead of one. We booked two nights but left after just one. By the time we arrived we were exhausted, or we would have left right away. We spent more than an hour cleaning because everything was dirty: there was a 2-3 inch band of dirt and dust in every room, hair on the beds and couch, a disgusting toilet, drips down the fridge, greasy stove knobs and splattered food around them, an uncomfortable bed, and dead bugs lining the windows. We cleaned those things and more ourselves. Someone called the morning we left, within an hour, apologized, and said someone would follow up about compensation. More than two weeks later, the owner contacted me and said my complaint was “sitting on someone’s desk who is on vacation.” She offered two free nights, but we declined. I said I was surprised by the response and had expected a refund for one night after the first conversations. I also explained that it’s a lengthy drive there and back, but she said that was all they could offer. At the end of the conversation, she said she hoped “our conversation is reflected in any future reviews.”
