Auberge Sur Mer de Charlevoix

The ribs turned out delicious and tender, though I would’ve liked some bread or a roll with them. I’d gone in wanting fish and chips, but they don’t serve it at dinner. There were other fish dishes; I might’ve chosen the cod, but its description, just “cod and citrus fruit,” didn’t tell me much. Every seat has a great view. Our waitress was abrupt, though she was the only server and clearly busy. We asked for one dessert and two forks, and got two desserts instead. It was amazing, so I was glad I didn’t have to share. The menu’s English could use work, and our Babbel French wasn’t quite enough, but trying was fun. I’d have rated the meal five stars if it hadn’t felt understaffed.

We called ahead and they held a room for us. We stayed two nights last week and had a great view from an excellent room. The haddock was great, and so was the spaghetti. Thanks for a lovely stay and great meals.

We went back for lunch the next day and really enjoyed the house menus. Everything tasted great, and the portions were just right. The seafood was excellent too. We’d stayed in a chalet in the forest and came here for dinner, since it was the only restaurant open in the village when we arrived. What a find. The food was tasty, and the kids loved it. We were completely satisfied.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, and it turned into a nice memory overall. Our room was clean, though dated. We stayed one night on our way to Tadoussac, arriving late. If you do the same, bring cash: our card didn’t work, so I withdrew cash and paid. Back home, I discovered the card had also been charged that night. I called a couple of times but didn’t get a refund. The hotel could use renovations, but the service was friendly. I’d recommend it for a short stay. You can walk along the shore and have breakfast at the nearby cafe.
