Hôtel MOCO Valleyfield

The building's old cotton mill past gives Hôtel MOCO a lot of character, and the renovations look gorgeous. Our room was spacious, clean, and thoughtfully laid out, with lovely views over the bay and downtown. Staff were warm and attentive, and between the indoor pool, fitness center, and restaurant, it was an easy place to relax. Stylish, welcoming, and full of personality. We visited the Muso Museum, which the grandchildren enjoyed, and they also had a great time during our stay. They are 13 and 7. Hotel Moco's rooms and service were excellent, and the location is handy, with restaurants all around that you can walk to.

We picked this hotel for its location and the water view from our room was amazing. It looks as industrial and distinctive in person as it does in the photos, and the staff were friendly. Still, the room wasn't clean. My five-year-old found glass on the floor where the kids were playing, and there were chip crumbs beside one of the beds. The bathroom floor had several curly hairs. I told the front desk, and they said they'd inform housekeeping, but I was disappointed that nothing else was done given the risk the glass posed to my children. At 6:30 a.m. we woke to steady banging from maintenance right outside our door. When I took the kids out at 8:15, a ladder was still unattended in front of the door, no worker was around, and a ceiling panel was missing. We won't be returning. After the hotel's response: No discount was applied at checkout, despite what the owner wrote. We emailed the address they provided and haven't heard about a solution. It's been a week.

My room was huge, bright, and comfortable, and the restaurant served excellent food with even better service. The gym was sleek and spacious, the carpets spotless, and the atmosphere felt fresh. From outside, the hotel looks like an unassuming, almost mysterious old warehouse, but inside you can sense the generations who once worked there. That history gives the place a soulful charm. I came all the way from Toronto to visit Valleyfield and was honestly stunned by it. I would've liked breakfast included to round out the overnight stay. The bar next door draws an odd crowd on weekends, sometimes loud or drunk, though that didn't spoil the hotel's charm. A wonderful unexpected find, and I plan to come back soon.
