The penthouse was lovely, as we expected, and gave us a beautiful space for celebrating our children’s birthdays. The suite itself met our expectations, but the service took away from what could have been a much more special stay. The day before we arrived, I asked the front desk if they could arrange a small gesture for my eldest’s 18th birthday and youngest’s 16th. I wasn’t asking for anything elaborate, just something thoughtful. They said nothing could be done and transferred me to the housekeeping manager. I reached voicemail and never got a call back. At check-in, the agent also wasn’t particularly welcoming. A warm greeting would have meant a lot for those milestones. I borrowed scissors to decorate before our guests arrived, then forgot to return them at checkout and left them in the kitchen sink. The next day, Ann L. from the front desk left a voicemail asking if I’d returned them. I explained they were in the suite, and she lectured me about taking items back to the front desk next time. For the price of the penthouse, a follow-up call and reprimand over scissors felt unnecessary. It would have made more sense to check whether they were still in the room first. If they’d been missing, I would gladly have replaced them. The penthouse was beautiful and perfect for the celebration, but the lack of a personal touch and how these things were handled detracted from the experience.

I booked for one night, then extended to a second. Even though the hotel was full, the reception team helped me stay in the same room, which I really appreciated. Parking was a nice bonus too. The rooms were clean and very nice, and the hotel had a pleasant feel. Staff were cooperative, especially at reception. Breakfast wasn’t included and had to be paid for separately, and the restaurant staff at breakfast didn’t seem as welcoming or helpful as the hotel team. Still, it was a very good stay and I’d recommend it.

The Wi-Fi was so slow I could barely buffer a 720p YouTube video, so there wasn’t much point connecting. Our room was by the elevator, where the constant chime carried through because soundproofing was poor. We could clearly hear conversations in the hall. Staff handled a flood of conference customers efficiently, and I have only positive things to say about their service. The hotel felt aged despite not seeming very old when I researched it, maybe from wear and tear or lack of maintenance. Cleanliness was on the low side, and my first impression was best described as “grungy.”

I have plenty of hotel options in Saskatoon, but Mandi’s customer service and genuine interest in people will keep me coming back to The Hub. Another lovely meal and wine, and the conversation made my evening. Her coworker had called in sick, leaving Mandi to handle the restaurant, bar, and room service. She never complained or missed a beat. Go see Mandi!

The clubhouse sandwich was phenomenal, with amazing flavor and fries that came out hot and crispy. The room was lovely, the same one we stayed in last year. We come for the service, pool, hot tub, cleanliness, and how close everything is. There were a few small issues this time: the hot tub jets weren’t working, though it was still usable and nice and hot. The bathroom sinks didn’t drain while the water was running, and the toilet door sagged and scraped along the floor, making it hard to close. These things are easy to fix and didn’t put us off. We’d definitely return and recommend it.
