Windspire Inn

The only real reason to stay here is the water nearby. We rented the “family cottage” and were very unimpressed by what we found. It was extremely dirty inside, and the photos give a fair idea of what to expect. The “bbq area” was disgusting, and an old mattress sat outside the whole time our family was there. Basic supplies were missing, including tea towels, dish soap, cutting boards and even sugar. There was a dishwasher but no pods, so we had to go buy some. The one paper towel roll was stained too. The sheets felt thin and cheap, the bed was rock hard, and the headboards were too big for the mattress and frame. There was barely any storage, just large wardrobes that didn’t make sense for the rooms, and one lamp didn’t work. It felt like things had been put in without much thought for comfort or guests. The central air wasn’t working properly, yet front desk staff asked us not to run the window air conditioner. The Wi-Fi password was tacked to the wall like in a college dorm. A welcome book with useful information, activity guides and contact details would have helped, but the place felt more like a dirty frat house. The lack of amenities makes me wonder if the owners are new or simply underqualified as hosts. I’d never book here again and would recommend going up the road to a proper hotel.

My elderly parents planned a three-night stay at The Windspire Inn in Port Elgin ON for a little road trip celebrating my Dad’s 88th birthday. When they arrived, a note on the counter told them to call a number. They were shown to a shabby, dirty room, and my mother wiped down the surfaces with a hand wipe before unpacking. There was no Wi-Fi or coffee in the room, and the windows wouldn’t open. They knew ahead of time that breakfast wouldn’t be available the next morning. They got through the first night, then I found them another place to stay. When they left, nobody was at the desk, and the number on the note went unanswered. They had paid in full through www.booking.com, so a refund seems unlikely, especially since the Inn’s main number still gets no answer. There’s no website for the Inn either. Please think twice before booking.

I’ve lived here for 15 months, and tonight I was asked to switch rooms so my unit could be upgraded. I felt really out of sorts about it, but these lovely people have my back. To all the couples who were here last season and said hey to me, God bless you all! I recently spent a night in one of the seasonal rooms, and omg, all my OCD and anxieties were gone. Keep coming back! Xoxo

Michelle was super helpful with a small technical issue and let us check in early. The room had a cozy, vintage feel, and Port Elgin beach was only a few blocks away.
